the quarterly Uniform Lesson Series,

SUNDAY EVENING BOOK GROUP
Sunday @ 5:30 p.m. in the Parlor
Keith Wright and Bobbie Sanders
are the leaders. The book study group will begin its fall
meetings on September 7 by discussing the book Islam: A Brief
History by Karen Armstrong. This study of Islam will
complement the morning church school class which will look at
Interfaith Dialogue and be led by San and Jan Williams. We
anticipate that the study of Islam will take about six weeks, so
we will look at our second book beginning on October 19. The
second book is Through the Moral Maze: Searching for Absolute
Values in a Pluralistic World. The author Robert Kane, a UT
Ethics Professor, will be speaking to the morning church school
class on November 16. If you would be interested in joining this
study which meets from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., please contact Keith
Wright or Bobbie Sanders.
TRADITIONAL BIBLE STUDY
Tuesday @ 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Parlor
(Begins September 9, 2008)
Make your fall plans to join the Tuesday Night Bible Study! We
will be studying the life of David from the books of Samuel and
Kings, along with some of the Psalms. We learn from Scripture
that David had a "heart for God," so perhaps we can study his
life in order to strengthen our own heart for God. The heart
symbolizes that part of us that is designed to discern truth, to
know God deeply. It symbolizes the very center of our being. So
come and join us on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. for a
discussion-based Bible study, beginning September 9. Matthew
Thompson and Judy Skaggs will teach the class.

2008-2009 Horizon's Bible Study: Jubliee!
Luke's Gospel for the Poor"
At UPC, we have two PW study groups. One meets on the
second Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. and the other on the
second Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Both study groups
meet at various members' homes or at the church. In the nine
lessons of Jubliee! Luke's Gospel for the Poor, Dale Lindsay
Morgan highlights Jesus' message of jubilee:"...he has anointed
me to bring good news to the poor...to proclaim release to the
captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the
oppressed go free..." (Luke 4:18). Learn about the many ways
that Christ's jubilee message turned the world upside down,
exalting the poor and including outsiders, bringing the love of
God to all.
